THE IMPORTANCE OF ROLE OF MEMBERS IN NON PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS
A non-governmental organization (NGO) is a non-profit group that functions independently of any government. NGOs, sometimes called civil societies, are organized on community, national and international levels to serve a social or political goal such as humanitarian causes or the environment. While "NGO" has various interpretations, the term is generally accepted to include non-profit, private organizations that operate outside of government control. Some NGOs rely primarily on volunteers, while others support a paid staff. The World Bank identifies two broad groups of NGOs:
· Operational NGOs, which focus on the design and implementation of development projects.
· Advocacy NGOs, which defend or promote a specific cause and seek to influence public policy.
Some NGOs may fall under both categories simultaneously. Examples of NGOs include those that support human rights, advocate for improved health or encourage political participation. DYKB is an example of an NGO that falls under both categories.
D.Y.K.B, Development of Youth using Kindness from a Biblical standpoint mainly uses volunteers in carrying out its duties. The society values volunteers so much that monetary value is placed on their time. D.Y.K.B seeks to support the youth population in a way that advances their ability to affect the communities they are in, and not just be baffled by overwhelming situations they encounter. To grow together and share ideas, and then put them into action. Good cause! Isn’t it? How does it seek to achieve this? Empowering the youth by lifting them up and lending support in the areas they need.
The members start with the Board Members. Board members are elected members that lead the organization; often they include founding members. In this context, all major decision making in the organization goes through them. In addition to having a decision-making role, all boards have a distribution of roles and responsibilities where the most common structure is: President, Vice President, General Secretary, Treasurer and Accountant. Each individual not only has his decision-making role, but also a functional role to play, whether it’s taking care of financials, managing internal communication or heading committees.

Donations are the lifeblood of a Non Profit organization. As non-profit organizations, NGOs rely on a variety of sources for funding projects, operations, salaries and other overhead costs. Because the annual budget of an NGO can be in the hundreds of millions (or even billions) of dollars, fundraising efforts are important for the NGO's existence and success. Funding sources include membership dues, the sale of goods and services, private sector for-profit companies, philanthropic foundations, grants from local, state and federal agencies, and private donations.
Individual private donors comprise a significant portion of NGO funding. Some of these donations come from wealthy individuals, such as Ted Turner's $1 billion donation to the United Nations, or Warren Buffett's 2006 pledge to give 10 million Berkshire-Hathaway class B shares to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (valued at more than $31 billion in June 2006).
Many NGOs, however, rely on a large number of small donations, rather than a small number of large donations. D.Y.K.B is currently running a $5 donation campaign in efforts to raise the funds needed for our Earthbag Building Training Center. A project, near completion, encapsulates 10 inches of earth’s rough job. Jute bags have been used as a binding agent that holds down the walls of the bank, with a proportion of cement to sand and clay in the ratio of 20:80. Its floor has been casted with cement only.
